OMG!!!! Seriously, the lady at the post office almost made me show my rear end.
The whole box payment deal was settled today.
AND........... I ABOUT LOST IT!!!
This was the conversation:
Me: Ok, so my box is locked still. How much do I owe?
Lady: $70.00 for a year; or $35 for 6 months.
Me: And this is good for how long??
Lady: Until the end of June 2010.
Me: If you KNOW this, why is my FLIPPIN box locked to begin with??????
Lady: When we did the print out, it came out blank. See..... there's no name or anything..... just blank. So we had to lock it. (There was another lady doing the computer thing; I was having a conversation with another. One lady told the other how to spell my name. I am not a violet person but I wanted to reach across the counter and smack her up side the head for being dumb.)
Me: You see me every day; you know me BY NAME! Could you not have SAID SOMETHING??? AND YOU KNOW IT'S NOT DUE UNTIL THE END OF JUNE. Why in the hell is my box locked NOW???
Lady: It's computer generated.
Me: OHHHHH, so you can't function without the computer telling you what to do? Yea, I get that. I'm paying for a year. And if my box gets locked before June 30, 2010. I will come in here and raise ever loving hell. I'm just saying and you have been forewarned. thankyouSOverymuch!
This got my blood to pumping. Because a computer spit out a blank sheet of paper where my name was, my box got locked A MONTH before the payment was due. AND THE FOOLS KNEW THIS!! I did get a little, only a little, loud and maybe slightly snippy but I did not show my butt nor did I cuss anyone out. OH BUT I WANTED TO! It's over now, and my PO box is paid in full for a year.

That's crazy, I don't know if I would have been able to keep my cool....

I hate it when people blame general human incompetence on a computer. I see it as a sad direction we are headed as a society, when we rely so heavily on a computer. I used to wait tables at a diner, where we hand wrote, added up the checks for our tables. The number of high school girls that came through and worked there, they were unable to do simple math without a calculator. It made me ill and sad for them all at the same time.
Thats insane! A box should not be that complicated.
I wonder sometimes what the heck people are/aren't thinking. Folks are too lazy to use the common sense the good Lord gave them.
