Finally I heard the words

Lil Man is 3 yrs and 2 months old.

I finally heard the words every mommy wants to hear.  Well..... one of the words.  The others are sure to follow.

"Mom mee"

Yes, you heard me right.  LM is just now saying mommy.  HARD!  Do you know how hard it is to want to hear those words come from my baby boy?!  I strive day in and day out not to compare, wish or think negative thoughts.  When we put LM in 2 yr preschool after about 2 months, his teacher came to us.  She said LM wasn't where he should be speech wise.  Honestly, I really wasn't stressing.  He had been with my mom from 3 months of age.  What first born is not pampered to a degree.  LM wasn't showing any other problems.....well, other than the fact he was getting ear infections on a monthly basis.  So, with the help of his teacher, we got LM involved in an early intervention program.  This came about when he was 2.5.  Not long after, he had tubes put in to help with the ear infections.

Fast forward to now...... at the age of 3, LM is in 3 yr old preschool 3 days a week.  Seeing a private speech therapist 2 days a week.  We've seen great improvement in the past 6 months.  Some days I honestly believe the majority of his problems aren't problems..... he's stubborn!  I think it's choice.  Then, there are days when I believe the child went part of his life not being able to hear the sounds clearly due to his ears.

All this mom knows is..... my heart melts when I hear the words "mom mee".  All the worry.... all the stress are erased when my little boy laughs like a loon, snuggles when he's tired, and kisses me when he's leaving.

I do know life might not be easy but I do know I'm blessed with this normal child.  Because frankly, what the hell is normal.  LM is my normal.  Yours might be different.  But they're both special in their own way.

Boys! They can drive us nuts with this, can't they? I have seen other little boys this age do the same thing> The best thing to do is exactly what you did, early intervention and hard work!
